Three in four Brazilians have no health insurance.
In July 2025, 52.9 million Brazilians had health insurance. That is a quarter of the country. The other three quarters, about 160 million people, have none.
People with insurance also use the SUS, often without noticing. Vaccines, the SAMU ambulance that comes to an accident, inspections of restaurants and pharmacies, and most transplants all go through it.
