In the 2022 Census, 55.5% of Brazilians said they were Black or brown (pardo), and 43.5% said they were white.

In 2019, 2.9 million adults (1.8%) said they were gay or bisexual. IBGE, Brazil's national statistics office, warns that the number may be higher, because some people are afraid to answer. The survey did not ask about trans people.
