The gap still shows in the numbers.

In the 2022 Census, 55.5% of Brazilians said they were Black or brown.

In 2023, an hour of work by a white person was worth 67.7% more than an hour by a Black or brown person. Among people with a college degree, the gap remained: 43.2% more.

In 2024, 77% of the people murdered in Brazil were Black. A Black person's risk of being murdered was 2.7 times that of a non-Black person.

The numbers alone do not say what the cause is. That is where the two sides disagree.
